Burma Burma is one of the newest outlet in the city catering to Burmese food lover. The outlet is located in Indiranagar just opposite to Glocal. The theme and interiors of this restaurant is inspired from relics and décor of Burma which is evident as soon as you enter. You will find a lot of antiques from Burma as well decorating this entire space. Burma Burma is also a fascinating place to try some exotic tea’s.
The menu is all inspired by Burmese cuisine. So, as soon as we entered we were refreshed with welcome drinks. First, we had the Samosa Soup, yes soup with a crushed samosa. The taste was delicious, and the combination was amazing. Next, we had the Raw Mango Salad. This salad is made from raw mango shreds with roasted red chilli, cabbage, lettuce and brown onion. The salad was a bit too sour for me and the cabbage didn’t really work.
Next, we had the Creamed Corn Paratha. The dish comprises of creamy corn mash cooked in coconut milk, spices and brown onion served with flaky paratha. The gravy is really creamy with a hint of spices and it just melts in the mouth. The Crunchy Tofu Steamed Buns was probably my favorites. A tofu patty is placed in the middle of the steamed buns with some lettuce and house-made sauce. The combination was totally worth the shot!
One of the main reason why Burmese food is so popular is probably because of the next dish. The Khow Suey at Burma Burma is no different. This one bowl meal is made with coconut milk stirred with lemongrass, tamarind and diced Asian vegetables over noodles. Served with plenty of ‘DIY’ (do it yourself) condiments to top it off, which can be mixed based on your preference. Probably not the best Khow Suey we have tried so far but definitely worth trying. For the main course we had the Brown Onion and Roasted Chilly Grilled Sticky Rice with the Stir Fried Vegetables Burmese Style. The veg curry was not up-to the mark and the veggies were too raw for us, but, the rice was very flavorful.
Burma Burma also had a variety of desserts like the Tagu Pyian. This sago is cooked with palm jaggery and served with coconut custard and the presentation is worth watching. We even had the Smokey Avocado Honey Caviar Ice-cream. This avocado ice-cream is served with honey in the shape of caviar or small spheres making the experience worthwhile. The ice-cream was creamy and yummy!
Overall the experience at Burma Burma was indeed great. Some dishes really needs to be looked upon, but, others are just fantastic.
