The Sultans of Spice

The idea behind the creation of Sultans of Spice is quite interesting, it showcases the rich spice route which existing between India and the Arab countries. The ambiance is based on this spice route with large sheesha, beautiful color décor and Arabian furniture. The place is large and the table arrangement makes the place look spacious. There are a few private tables as well. Sultans of Spice is part of the BluPetal Hotel, Koromangla which houses another restaurant, Buff Buffet Buff.

Sultans of Spice serves only buffets during lunch times. As we made ourselves comfortable the staff member quicks served us with the tomato soup, which was soothing to the throat with an elevated cardamom taste. We then explored the entire buffet spread and started with the appetizers like Tandoori mushrooms, Tandoori aloo, Panner tikka, Seekh kebab served with green chutney. The Tandoori Aloo were out of the world but the tandoori mushrooms were not cooked properly.

Sultans of Spice has many live counters like the drinks counter, the jalebi counter and the chat counter. The Chat counter had a variety of chats like paani puri, sev puri, raj kachori, aloo chat and so on. The Paani Puri and Papdi Chat were outstanding. The Karela chat was also interesting keeping in mind that the ingredients used in most of the chaats is almost same.

For the main course I tried the Matter Mushroom, Paneer Butter Masala and the Dal. The Matter Mushroom was a delight while the Paneer got a bit hard for the gravy. You can choose between a number of Indian Breads. The spinach Paneer rice was another of my favorite here. Loved it.

We then stopped at another stall which had the Jalebi’s. Now most of us have eaten the regular ones but Sultans of Spice takes this experience to a new level where they had not only the regular ones but also Apple, Pineapple and Mirchi Jalebi. The Mirchi Jalebi is a must try which has the rare combination of sweetness as well as spicy!

The buffet is a value for money and the service was spot-on even with the crowds. Special thanks to Mr. Chris, the manager, there who made sure there was no service issues. As we went there for a special occasion, he made it even more special.
