It happens only in India

Venue : Hazra Road
Time : 3.00pm

I was returning from Sony’s Service Center. A policeman tried to stop me in the middle of the road. Upon enquiring, he said “Need to check your Bike Papers”.

Whenever I go out I always keep my papers like Driving License, Insurance and Smart Card with me. The policeman took me to his ‘Sahib’. He asked me for my papers and I showed all of them. To my surprise there was no ‘Pollution Check’ paper with me. The other policeman asked me for ‘Pollution Check’ paper. He told me that if I don’t have it, I will be given a Big ‘Case’. I panicked. I called up my cousin to check why the Pollution Check paper was missing.

My cousin told me that since it’s a new Hero Honda Bike, there is no Pollution Check paper for 3 years. He even read out the clause from the Bike Book.

I argued with these policemen that I don’t have it since the bike is new. The other policemen said the ‘Case’ would be bigger now may be something around Rs. 2000. I sweated. I thought my cousin might me wrong. I continued arguing, when the ‘Sahib’ told me that after 6 months from purchase all the bikes need Pollution Check paper. I had no other option then to believe him as he obviously knows more about traffic rules.

I took the other policeman by the side of the road and gave him Rs.100. At first he threatened me to give a big ‘Case’. But gradually accepted it after talking to his ‘Sahib’. To my suprise they didnt have any Case filling book.

I came back home and instantly read the Bike Book which clearly said that the Bike does not need Pollution Check paper for 3 years. I cursed the policemen. Didn’t know they just make up stories to extract money. I had no other option then to bribing the policemen because they would have got me in someother case anyway. Who want to go to the Court for such petty excuses?

I swear never to bribe anyone again especially Policeman even if I have to go to the Court!
