Go West – The California Boulevard

The California Boulevard or TCB takes you straight to Hollywood and Beverly Hills. TCB makes sure we are on the beautiful boulevards of California including the Walk of Fame. The Façade is extraordinary and is lit by Palm Trees which can be seen from quite a distance. The outlet is made on the same lines as The California Boulevard, Rajouri Garden. The main entrance houses a Harley Davidson and is one of the main attractions at TCB. TCB is in the race of being the top restaurants in Gurgaon.

The place is modern and the décor is classical with relaxing chairs. The ambiance is amazing and everything is vintage here. The walls are adorned with large LED boards which runs Hollywood posters. The outlet is spread over 2 floor and has a sitting arrangement for almost 100+ people. The innovative menu is designed by Chef Karen Rawat. Everything is as clean as a crystal. All the waiters wear gloves to keep it neat. Special mention needs to be given to the staff who are very warm and courteous.

As we sat comfortable our waiter introduced himself and placed the napkins on our laps. We started with a range of mocktails and ordered the Watermelon Spitzer, Spicy Guava Mary and the Green Apple Cooler. The Watermelon Spitzer had cubes of fresh Watermelon, Kaffir Lime and was super refreshing. The Spicy Guava Mary was spicy as the name suggests from the black pepper. The rim of the glass was covered with salt and chat masala giving an ultimate twist to the drink. Superb! The Green Apple Cooler mocktail was gentle in taste but refreshing in nature.

The waiters than places the cutlery beautifully on our table as we moved to try the appetizers at The California Boulevard. We had the Dilli Ki Chat, a must have at TCB. The battered Spinach is deep fried and chat toppings (Yoghurt + Mint chutney + Tamarind chutney) are added to it finished with loads of sev. You can go on and on with this light snack! The Tangy Button Mushrooms came next and were the highlight of the night. Loved the tangy, sweet and chili flavors on the Mushrooms. The sweet chili sauce was just icing on the cake. A definite must have at TCB.

We then tried the Sushi Panner Rolls. At first I was in a doubt to order this or not, but, it turned out to be quite a delight. The Rolls were crisp from outside and filled with mushrooms, mint and coriander. The filling just melted in the mouth. Next we tried the Khumb aur Singhade ki Galouti. The flavors were amazing; and the mushrooms and water chestnut were meshed so well together. The Kebabs were served with a variety of chutney’s including the fresh mint chutney. The last appetizer we had were the California Veggie Pizza. The thin crust pizza was topped with mushroom, sun-dried tomato, egg-plant, broccoli, onions and baby corn with a generous sprinkle of mozzarella cheese. The pizza had veggies from all spectrum and still lip-smacking.

We were so full by then that we didn’t have the room to try the main course. Therefore, we straight-away went to Desserts. We had the TCB Kulfi Gazzak, Chocolate Nutella Torte and White Chocolate Parfait. The TCB Kulfi Gazzak is one of their best sellers. The innovation by Chef Karen is outstanding. The Kesari Kulfi is hidden under the outer layer of chocolate. The waiter then melted the chocolate with the flame torch paving the way from the Kulfi to meet the Gazzak pieces. The Chocolate Nutella Torte came next. The presentation of this dish was outstanding. The multi-layer chocolate cake is filled with Nutella in a creamy consistency along with layers of chocolate cookie crumble. Loved it! The Nutella and Cookie crumble was a surprise! The White Chocolate Parfait is a unique dish made from thin white chocolate puffs and whipped cream. The flavors of the white chocolate were not overly sweet and the whipped cream gave a perfect balance.

Lastly we had the Green tea. The presentation was remarkable putting elegance as ‘The California Boulevard’s’ top priority. The Green Tea is served with lemon and sugar syrup.
