The best of Asian Food – 48East

48East is a Bangalore based food startup that delivers premium gourmet Asian food right at your doorsteps. The cuisines range from Middle-East to Thailand, from India to China. The gourmet food from these Asian countries is currently limited to 5 star hotels or a few selective places only. 48East has understood the gap in the market with regards to the limited knowledge about these cuisines. 48East plans to make its food available to everyone, anytime and at an affordable price point.

Founded in mid-2016 by Joseph Cherian and Nabhojit Ghosh, 48East is led by an experienced team of culinary experts. The authentic food from 48 different Asian countries has been carefully curated. The menu keep changing on a weekly basis making it easier for customers to try different authentic dishes from countries like Laos, Cambodia, India, Uzbekisthan, Turkey, Lebanon, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia and so many more. 48East currently operates out of 2 kitchens one in Indiranagar and another in Marathalli and will soon be expanding to other places.

We got exclusive access to their kitchen to see the real action and try our hands on some of the dishes and the experience simply blew my mind. First we tried the Pan seared Veg Baozi. This is a fluffy steamed Chinese breakfast buns with a blend of veggies but pan seared. Served with a mustard dip and a Sweet Chili sauce this was amazing. The Bao was steamed perfectly to make it light and airy. Next we had the Spinach Cheese & Golder Garlic Dumpling. These translucent dimsums with spinach, golden garlic and cheddar filling were fantastic. The Golden garlic made the entire experience worthwhile.

Next we had the Malaysian Corn and Bean Salad, this is a light and refreshing sweet corn salad with cucumber, peppers, cherry tomato, cilantro, baked beans dressed with Kaffir Lime Chili Vinaigrette. The Tai Chin Water Chestnut dish was made out of crunchy water chestnut tossed with colored peppers, onion and in a smoked chili sauce and served with salad. Both the dishes were appetizing.

The Burmese Vegetable Khausuey came next. This is a wholesome one dish meal with aromatic coconut curry with veggies and a generous portion of noodles. This dish is a must try as it gives you different flavors with every bite. The Green Pea Falafel Sandy was a Green pea and Chickpea falafel sandwiched in cumin bread, with herbed mayo, tomatoes and pickled cucumber was nothing less than awesome. Lastly we had the Bok Choy & Mushroom with Moon Fan. The Pan braised Pok-choy with Mushrooms in soya-ginger sauce is served with Lotus Leaf Wrapped Moon Fan (Rice). The dish is very aromatic and tastes like cashews in every bite.

For the dessert, we tried the Nest of Dragon. This was a visually appealing Chocolate filled dumpling served over crisp honey noodles. The dumpling oozes chocolate as soon as you take the first bite. The conception of this dish is nothing less than a miracle. Loved their Tab Tim Krob. This Thai dessert is one of my favorites and at 48East they take it another level by inducing flavors of rosy water with the Coconut cream. The dessert is made from colored beads of water chestnut fruit and jackfruit. Lastly, we had the Banana Five Nut roll. This Asian roll made of crisp fried Banana and nuts; all enclosed in a thin pastry and is served with a beautiful and decadent walnut cream sauce. Delicious!

48East is one stop for any Asian food cravings. The quality of the food is top notch directly competing with some of the giants in the industry! The range of food you can try here is simply endless!
