An Unusual Food Experience at ‘Impromptu’

Located under the green wings of Vatika Towers on Golf Course Road, Gurgaon Impromptu takes you to a tropical setting. The place is centrally located in between beautiful vegetation. There are two parts to this outlet – one controlled by air-conditioning and the other natural open setting. The high ceiling give this place the much needed elevation. The entire place just lit up during night time and becomes a paradise out of nowhere and becomes a ecosystem of its own.

The seating arrangement is beautifully segmented while low dim lights give this place a rustic look. The bar is at the center. In short the ambiance is amazing. We went for the Dinner Buffet which comes with unlimited appetizers. The place has live kitchen for a few items and has a huge salad bar on one end. To make things easy the management needs to write down there Buffet offerings somewhere as we didn’t find it anywhere.

Tomato Mexican Soup – Tomato Coriander Soup, great taste. 8/10

The buffet comes with 5 appetizers served with 4 choice of chutneys/sauce:-

Panner Tikka – Soft Panner cubes with house made marination. We missed raw onions with our Panner Tikka. 7/10

Veg Poppers – Cheese and crumbled vegetables Poppers with black pepper in the center. 8/10

Kaju Gulati Kebab – Kebab that just melted in the mouth. The Kebab was crunchy with the cashew pieces. Goes really well with the green chutney. 8/10

Spring Rolls – Deep fried Chinese Spring Rolls. Superb in taste and light on stomach. Went well with the sweet chilli sauce. 8/10

Honey Chili Lotus Roots – Dish made from deep fried lotus roots and tasted very similar to Honey Chili Potato. The sweet dressing was incredible and the use of spring onions in the dish was impressive. 8/10

Fresh Salad Bar – The most amazing counter at Impromptu is probably the Salad Counter. You may choose what veggies you like, pour your choice of sauce and enjoy. There were more a dozen vegetable and half a dozen salad dressing options. This counter is really impressive and gives your meal the healthy veggie kick needed. 9/10

Live Pasta Counter – Again choose your choice of vegetables and sauce and even the pasta. The pasta is created by the live kitchen chef. There were 4 sauce options in 4 different types of pasta. We had the mixed sauce penne pasta with all the veggies topped with generous amount of Parmesan cheese. You can also try their Noodles which come with 4 different sauce options. 8/10

Panner Butter Masala – Rich Tomato Gravy with soft cubes of Panner. Not that great in taste though. 6/10

Dal Makhani – Good Black Dal with creamy rich gravy type consistency. 7/10

Aloo Jeera – Deep fried Baby Potato halves with cumin seeds. Not that flavorful. The potato were tasteless. 6/10

Butter Naan – Soft butter Naan cut into three pieces. You may also choose between other bread types. 7/10

Raita – House made fresh vegetable raita made with cucumber and onions. 7/10

For Desserts we tried the:-

Fresh Strawberry Cream – Light strawberry flavored cream served as a dessert. Lightly sweet but very fresh. The use of cream here needs to be appreciated. 8/10

Chocolate Brownie – Choco-Walnut brownie pieces. 7/10

Firni – Creamy firni finished with pistachios. 7/10

Blueberry Cake – Blueberry Pastry pieces. 7/10

Apple Pie – Apple Pie crumble with a hint of cinnamon. Not crispy enough for my palate. 6/10

The service really stands out and was quite impressive throughout the night. Overall, the North Indian main course failed to impress but the complete salad bar and the live kitchen were extremely spectacular. Adding a beverage to the Buffet would really make it complete. Impromptu really gives a healthy kick to our Buffet’s.
