Ulavacharu – A meal worth it

Ulavacharu is an authentic Andhra cuisine destination located in Koramangala 5th Block. After their grand success in Hyderabad then recently arrived into the Bangalore food scene. The décor of the restaurant is in the form of a traditional village with posters of Telugu hit films all-around. As soon as you enter the place you are greeted with a beautiful water fountain right infront of a Lord Krishna idol. Ulavacharu is known to serve a wide range of celebrities and other dignitaries including the President of India. All the customers are served in a traditional way right on a banana leaf.

The recent Mango Festival was a hit with the customers and we couldn’t wait to put our hands into some of them. The Mango Paneer Seekh Kebab is a deep-fried paneer stick topped with a mango-based relish. The taste of the combo was amazing. Next, we had the Crunchy Curd Cultlet or dahi ke kebab which are deep fried with a bread coating. The curd was tangy and filled with chillies for a spicy affair. The Corn Sheekh was again unqiue as a piece of baby corn was deep fried and coated with a tomato-based relish. Quite different than what we usually have in other places. The Masala Buttermilk and the Aam Panna is a perfect partner with these appetizers.

For the main course, we had variety of rice items like the Mango Rice. This dish is similar to lemon rice but the lemon is replaced with the raw mango. Just mouth watering! The Ulavacharu Veg Pulao is one of the most authentic dishes in the menu here. This biryani is topped with variety of veggies which are tossed in with some tamarind. Don’t miss out on this! The Guthu Venkayi Pulao is similar to the last dish but is made with eggplant. Never knew eggplant in a biryani could taste like something heavenly. We even got our hands into the Mango Dal with some white rice. The dal was tangy and tasted different than regular ones. To end our meal we had the Apricot Delight. This is in the form of a pastry and is topped with cream! Hats off!
