A Journey through ‘The Yellow Submarine’

Welcome to the world of ‘The Yellow Submarine’, located right across IIM-Bangalore campus on Bannerghatta Road. The entrance is similar to that of a submarine and you can even see a giant anchor as soon as you enter. The place is huge with a separate area for projecting sport events, a water pond, a small stage for live performances and DJs, open and closed seating arrangements and much more. As this outlet is located on a roof top the atmosphere is lively and romantic! They even have a micro-brewery that will be started in a couple of weeks time.

As we made ourselves comfortable, we tried the Wine Punch made with Red Wine, Cranberry juice and raspberry syrup. The taste was out of the world! This is one wine drink that we will definitely try in the future. Next, we had the Rivulet made with fresh watermelon juice, basil leaves and is topped with black salt foam. As you sip through the drink you get different flavors of sweet watermelon and a sour taste from the salt foam. Indeed, rare and excellent! Named after the famous Beatle’s song – ‘Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds’ had fresh sweet lime and orange juice with a bit of orange marmalade and marshmallow on top! And lastly, we tried the Submarine Martini which is deep purple in color and is made with ginger and cranberry juice. Both the cocktails were amazing and refreshing.

We were so intrigued with the drinks at Yellow Submarine and we couldn’t wait to try our hands on the food. The Lotus Stem in Chili Coriander is a perfect example of that. Made with real plum sauce, the dish was delicious. Don’t forget to try it! Next came the Elotes, an Italian dish made with Baby Corn topped with preserved Lemon. A bit more lemony for my taste buds but still unique. The Masala Papad are small disk shaped papad topped with Onion, tomato salsa and Mint Coriander foam. The Dahi ke Kebab’s were delicious with subtle flavors and lots of nuts.

The Vegetable Cutlis is made with a Pepper jam center and served with fermented chili dip. But my favorite was the Watermelon Marinated in Siracha Vinaigrette and topped with feta cream. This dish is so damn refreshing because of the siracha vinaigrette and creamy from the feta cheese. Onion Samosa came next which is served with beetroot hummus made with smoked paprika cream, chili oil and cold garbanzo. Delicious!

We still wanted to try more from the appetizers and choose the Oven Roasted Pumpkin Pasta. This unique pasta is made up of fettuccine in cream sauce and topped with flaked almonds. The dish is creamy and melts in the mouth. Then came the Tricolor Lasagna which had three layers one of Pesto, Tomato Ragout and Mozzarella grana Padano cheese.

When it comes to desserts ‘The Yellow Submarine’ has an array of continental desserts like the Baked Blueberry Cheese Cake. This cheesecake is topped with blueberry sauce and a scope of vanilla icecream. But we loved their House made Snicker Bar the most. This multilayer dessert had Chocolate almond praline, milk chocolate mousse and placed on salted caramel glaze.

The Yellow Submarine offers some really unique dishes that are ought to be tried! Dont forget to try their Onion Samosa , Lotus Stem in Chili Coriander, Watermelon Marinated in Siracha Vinaigrette out of the rest!
