The Modern Pub – House of Commons

House of Commons is a modern pub present at three locations in Bangalore. We decide to visit their HSR Layout outlet, which opened last year. The place is spread over two floors with a special open seating area as well which gives a lovely view during the evenings. The ambiance is modern with wooden décor and wall paintings. We went on a Saturday evening and the place was buzzing with almost all the tables filled.

The menu at HOC reflects the wide variety of food and drinks available here. The Bar menu is also phenomenal in size. We tried a couple of drinks here like the HOC Evolution, Tropical Martini, Mango Margarita and Michelada. The HOC Evolution is a mixture of Orange juice, lemon, mint, cranberry juice, ginger ale and is one of the signature cocktails at HOC. Don’t miss it. But, I totally feel in love with the Tropical Martini made out of Pineapple, coriander leaves and fennel seeds. The combination was rare and simply amazing. Next we tried the Mango Margarita with mango juice and coriander. Great summer drink! The Michelada was made from beer, lime juice, soya sauce, tobasco sauce and black salt on the glass rim. Can you imagine a drink with soya and tobacco sauce? Indeed, it turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

To accompany the drinks we ordered the signature Masala Peanut at House of Commons. These peanuts are tossed with Indian spices, onions, chilies and goes really well with the drinks. The peanuts comes in a jar and looked succulent. Next, we had the Tandoori Veg Momos, the momos are baked in tandoor until all the spices on top are cooked properly. It was a perfect combination of sweet and chilies flavors. But, the surprise were the Mushroom Loaded Fries, a cheesy treat made out of French fries, topped with mushrooms and then baked till it is golden brown. Yummy!

After the appetizers, we again ordered few more drinks again like the Pomegranate Mojito, Watermelon Mojito, LIIT and the Kaluha Shots. Both the Pomegranate Mojito and Watermelon Mojito are amazing super coolers. The LIIT was classical, no complains there. The best among all were the Kaluha Shots made out of Kaluha, curry leaves and lime. Never knew the taste of coffee and liquor could be so good.

Next, we tried the Meeze Platter with Cucumber Lebneh, Hummus, Baba Ghanoush, pita bread and garlic bread. This is a complete platter in itself and the flavors of the dip were subtle. The Paneer Tikka Bruschetta had paneer tikka pieces spread over a piece of bread. The taste was too mild for my palate. But loved their Crispy Corn Chilli Pepper which had fried crisp corn tossed with lime juice, salt, chili and pepper. The pepper provide the extra kick needed. Lastly, we had the Walnut Brownie for desserts. This warm Chocolate brownie was served with vanilla ice-cream and chocolate sauce. Once you start digging you simply cannot stop!

House of Commons is a great place when it comes to food and drinks. Their cocktails menu is to die for. Thanks to Mr.Adarsh and Mr.Balaji for their hospitality and amazing evening!
