Hunan – The Chinese Restaurant

Hunan is a pan-Chinese Restaurant located in Koramangala area in Bangalore / Bengaluru directly opposite to ‘Empire restaurant’ on the 60 feet road. The cuisine served here is diversed from Sichuan to Hunan, Canton to Beijing. The décor is inspired by Chinese artifacts while a huge dragon is engraved on the wall. The ambiance is clean with wooden chair seating while the bar is located on one corner of the restaurant.

Having being awarded one of the best Chinese Restaurant in the city, it recently launched its brand new ‘Soups and Dim-sums’ menu. We tried a couple of items from this menu including a complete of mocktails like the American Sweet Heart and the Virgin Mojito. The American Sweet Heart was made with Hazelnut, Vanilla Ice Cream, Pineapple Juice, Honey and the taste was fantastic. While the Virgin Mojito was refreshing with mint and lemon.

Next we had the Sweet Potato and Carrot soup which is an all-Asian inspired soup with coconut milk and curry paste. The soup was fantastic as it had peanuts and veggies to chew. The taste was very close to Khow Suey. Next we also tried the Tom Yum Soup which was a very spicy Thai Soup and the broth was made from oyster mushroom with galangal and lemon grass.

We had a variety of Dim-sums like the Truffle Scented Edamame Dumplings, Vietnamese Spring Rolls and the Bok Choy and Mushroom Money Pouch. The Edamame Dumplings had truffle scented fresh soya beans mixture with wheat starch skin on top. The Vietnamese Spring Rolls were translucent from top as they were wrapped in rice paper. The stuffing was made fresh vegetable, tofu and glass noodles inside and serve with spicy hoisin peanut sauce. This is a must try as the rolls are combination of a lot of different flavors. The Bok Choy and Mushroom Money Pouch were made with Fresh oyster mushrooms and Bok choy in wheat starch skin. This crunchy dumpling was again delicious.

The Mushroom and Tofu Fatty Bao came next. The Bao was made with Tofu and Mushroom as their main ingredients with pickle cucumber, barbeque sauce and scallion on top. The bao was super soft and the cucumber made the bao crunchy. The Barbeque sauce collated all the things together. Next we had the Crispy Lotus Stem with Ginger Honey Sauce. The crispy and crunchy lotus stem were tossed with chili ginger honey sauce and tasted fantastic.
