A Colonial Experience – Tobey

Tobey is a new colonial restaurant & bar in Bangalore which takes you on a unique food trip down the colonial era. The restaurant offers an eclectic fusion of traditional Anglo-Colonial cuisines. At Tobey, experience the rich history and flavors of the best ancient delicacies like the Portuguese influenced Vindaloo to the English stew, which gives your taste buds a culinary trip to one of the most revolutionary eras. From quintessential English breakfast to ancient Indian delicacies, experience the best of Anglo-Indian cuisine handpicked from places that were once a colonial colony.

Spread across two floors, the interiors of Tobey offer a wood rich environment that emanates the feeling of a colonial home. The entrance of the restaurant is designed to depict the courtyard and inner area of a colonial home with a lamppost.  The colored glasses at the entrance adds a pop of color to the setting. A vintage hanging clock, metal fans, a transistor and upcycled sewing machines as tables will surely transport you back in time.

Tobey offers some refreshing drinks and shakes like the Fresh Mango Shake and the Cucumber and Mint Cooler which I tried. The Mango Shake was thick and had the right quantity of sugar. The Cucumber and Mint Cooler was refreshing with a dash of mint and whole cucumbers. If you are the experimental kind, try the signature siders like Creamy mushroom spinach and papaya jam that are exclusively made at Tobey.

But, if you are craving for a king size breakfast, Tobey’s English Breakfast platters are a hearty experience. For this reason, I had the Cooke’s Goes Vegetarian platter which comes with Two Toasts, Baked Beans, Mushroom Spinach, Salad, Mashed Potato, Salsa, Vegan Sausage, Grilled Vegetables and a beverage of your choice. This is a complete breakfast and after having this you don’t need anything for a couple of hours.

Don’t forget to try their Breakfast Pizza which comes in a plenty of choices like Mushroom and Zucchini. This thin crust pizza is a true delight. For French Fries lovers, Tobey had the Classic Poutine, which is a homemade fries with cheese and gravy. Amazing in taste, this creamy dish will take your breath away.

For the desserts we had the Chocolate Mousse and the Blueberry Cheesecake. The Chocolate Mousse was a simple dish made with chocolate and topped with frosting. But the best dish on the menu was probably the Blueberry cheesecake. With a light crumble on the base this cheesecake was topped with a lot of Blueberry sauce for the perfect scoop.
