The Whitefield Arms – Heritage and more

VR, Whitefield, Bangalore has slowly transformed into one of the top destination for lifestyle and food in the past one year. The mall houses some of the top brands in the city including The Whitefield Arms. This British Pub draws its inspiration from the rich heritage of the local area namely Whitefield. The entrance of this pub is of colonial style architecture with a look of quaint bungalows and orchards. The Whitefield Arms is a living history English pub with colonial themed wooden furniture and outdoor seating makes it the perfect place to catch up with friends and colleagues.

The Whitefield Arms is located on the ground floor of the mall with a small area dedicated to outdoor seating. This English Pub also houses a microbrewery that will start in a couple of weeks. The focus is especially on the drinks and Whitefield Arms does not disappoint there. We tried a couple of their signature drinks like the Air Mail made with Honey, lime juice and sparkling wine. The Mountbatten is made with grapefruit, strawberry, lime and bitters. Exceptional taste with a balance of flavors. The Raspberry Mojito had refreshing taste from the raspberries and lime.

We also tried the Queen’s Park Swizzle made with lime, mint and topped with red wine. This is one of the rare drinks with wine and liquor combination. The Classic Mojito was truly classical and refreshing. The bartender also created an amazing drinks called the ‘19th Century’, which was marvelous in taste. Don’t forget to try this!

The Whitefield Arms also has a great range of appetizers. The combination of British with Indian flavors is so evident in some of the dishes like the Mulligatawny Soup. Made with the broth of lentils along with curry powder and coconut milk this was one of the favorites in British Raj! The Haymarkey Stacked Salad is another such example. This is a central London lunch favorite, made with fresh salad leaves in creamy mustard yogurt dressing. The fried corn chips on top makes everything come together so well.

The chef was kind enough to create an assorted platter for us. The platter had Suzzie’s Bangles, Chili Cheese Toast, Cottage Cheese Butty and the Goat Cheese and Caramelized Onion Tartlets. The Suzzie’s Bangles is a breadcrumb-fried onion rings and served with tomato mustard relish and garlic mayo. These were absolutely amazing in texture and taste; does well with any drink. The Chili Cheese Toast was homely with a spread of English Cheddar and Emmental along with Chilies on top. The Cottage Cheese Butty are sliders made out of spicy Cottage cheese patty and served with spicy apple chutney. However, my personal favorites were the tartlets made with marinated onions and Goat cheese and topped with creamy balsamic dressing. A great finger food option here!

Next, we had the Chips, Cheese and Gravy, these crispy fries topped with dal makhani, cheese, chopped jalapenos, green chilies and onions in one of the rare combination you can ever find. We also tried the Spinach, cheese and potato dumplings, the crispy fried dumplings are made with spinach puree and served with rich tomato sauce and saffron basmati rice. The Spinach dumpling along with the tomato sauce was excellent in taste.

The Whitefield Arms had a variety of English desserts like the London Trifle. This dessert is made out of sponge cake soaked with sherry with layers of custard, jam, fruits and topped with whipped cream. The Classic Carrot cake is a layered cake with cream cheese glaze and made with a hint of cinnamon and walnuts. This is absolutely divine and the carrot cake just melted in the mouth. Nevertheless, don’t miss the Sticky Toffee Pudding, it is a rich cake soaked in thick sticky sauce topped with vanilla ice cream. Great all-rounder dessert with amazing flavors.
